If You Haven't Paid the Fee...

No problem! We provide medical services to all University of Pittsburgh students, regardless of Health Fee status.

We only ask that the students be prepared to meet the following conditions:

  • Monetary payment is accepted for all services provided by the Student Health Service.
  • MasterCard, Visa, Discover, personal Checks, and cash are acceptable forms of payment.

All charges for services provided must be paid for at the time of the visit.

Remember, the Health Fee can be purchased at the Student Health Service upon request.

Reasons to Purchase

The Health Fee is primarily a once-per-term charge to the student. Its protection range spans the length of the school term for which it was purchased, from the official first day of classes to the official last day of classes.

The Fee was designed to provide students with virtually unlimited access to the majority of medical services available at the Student Health Service facility at little or no additional cost.

At today's health care prices, you won't find a better bargain.

Because Summer is broken down into multiple terms, only one health fee purchase is necessary to cover you throughout the summer. (Summer Hfee Coverage ends at the beginning of the Fall Term.)

How to Purchase

The Health Fee is mandatory for all full-time:

  • Undergraduate Students
  • Graduate Students
  • Professional Students

The Fee will appear as a line item on your tuition invoice. Part-time students may elect to pay the Fee before the end of the add/drop period. Payment can be made at the Cashier's Office, Thackeray Hall, or at the Student Health Service Main Reception Desk.

The Health Fee enables the Student Health Service to provide health promotion programs, education, and primary health care !

Currently, the Health Fee costs a student:

  • $85 per full term
Applies to the full Fall, Spring, and Summer Terms.
  • $170 per school year
    Applies to Medical Students only.

Coverage Limits

Payment for the following instances are not covered by the Health Fee:

  • Allergy Injections

  • Allergy Injections are given for a separate established per-visit fee charge.

Payment for any allergy injection services provided by this facility is the responsibility of the student.

  • Physical Examinations

  • Physical Examinations are given for a separate established cost.

Payment for any lab work, X-Rays or immunizations required for a physical examination is the responsibility of the student.

  • Pharmacy

  • Prescriptions filled by a registered pharmacist, and over-the-counter drugs are also available. While there is a charge for all items, prices are often lower than those in a commercial drug store.
Many third party payers are accepted.

  • Referrals

  • The Student Health Service provides referrals to all medical specialties through the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).

Payment for any services provided by any and all outsource facilities is the responsibility of the student.

We do not pay for treatment/services received somewhere else.

  • Optional Health Insurance Policies/Plans

  • The Student Health Service is designed as your source of primary health care during your student years. There may, however, be a time when more extensive medical treatment or emergency care is needed which is beyond our scope. Optional, third-party health insurance policies are available to all students to provide additional major medical benefits for these situations.

These optional policies cover the medical services administered by other medical facilities only, and do not cover services provided by the Student Health Service.

Some third-party insurance applications and claim forms have been distributed to us and are available at the Student Health Service.

These optional insurance policies are not affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh and may change from year to year.
