Reasons to Purchase

The Health Fee is primarily a once-per-term charge to the student. Its protection range spans the length of the school term for which it was purchased, from the official first day of classes to the official last day of classes.

The Fee was designed to provide students with virtually unlimited access to the majority of medical services available at the Student Health Service facility at little or no additional cost.

At today's health care prices, you won't find a better bargain.

Because Summer is broken down into multiple terms, only one health fee purchase is necessary to cover you throughout the summer. (Summer Hfee Coverage ends at the beginning of the Fall Term.)

  • Graduate Students
  • Professional Students

The Fee will appear as a line item on your tuition invoice. Part-time students may purchase the fee when paying tuition bill or at the Student Health Service.

The Health Fee enables the Student Health Service to provide health promotion programs, education, and primary health care !

  • $85 per full term
Applies to the full Fall, Spring, and Summer Terms.
  • $170 per school year
    Applies to Medical Students only.

Coverage Limits

Payment for the following instances are not covered by the Health Fee:

  • Medical Services (Not Covered)

  • Click here for a price list of all medical services, supplies, and medications not covered by the Health Fee.

  • Pharmacy

  • Prescriptions filled by a registered pharmacist, and over-the-counter drugs are also available. While there is a charge for all items, prices are often lower than those in a commercial drug store.
Many third party payers are accepted.

  • Referrals

  • The Student Health Service provides referrals to all medical specialties through the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).

Payment for any services provided by any and all outsource facilities is the responsibility of the student.

We do not pay for treatment/services received somewhere else.

  • Optional Health Insurance Policies/Plans

  • The Student Health Service is designed as your source of primary health care during your student years. There may, however, be a time when more extensive medical treatment or emergency care is needed which is beyond our scope. Optional, third-party health insurance policies are available to all students to provide additional major medical benefits for these situations.

These optional policies cover the medical services administered by other medical facilities only, and do not cover services provided by the Student Health Service.

Some third-party insurance applications and claim forms have been distributed to us and are available at the Student Health Service.

These optional insurance policies are not affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh and may change from year to year.
